The S.S. Republic and her Treasure

The S.S. Republic was built in honor of war vet James Hooper. The ship was previously named the Tennessee and was used as a merchant vessel. However, after 1862, its name was modified to the Republic following it coming under civilian ownership. But the tale of this grand ship was short lived.

On the fifth day of its expedition on Oct 25th, 1865, enroute to New Orleans transporting people and valued payload, it sank off the costal ways of Georgia, sinking hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gold, silver, bullions and jewels, in that day, on the ocean bottom of those vast waters.

After numerous endeavors of locating the remains of S.S. Republic, it was finally observed in 2003 near the sea-coast of Florida. As the remains were being unearthed, what had considered to be found, after more than a century, were only the remains of the wooden masts, rudder and paddle wheel of the ship; but no.

Gold, silver, gold nuggets, bullions, gold coins and jewels emerged from the sea bed, leaving the idea that an in depth sweep was needed to possess them.

But fortunately , for avid adventurers, all of the original items that were lost were not completely retrieved. For many who are driven with passion for treasure hunting and exploration, the search for S.S. Republic and its treasures is the only real way to get their itch scratched!

The hunt for gold nuggets, coins, silverware and jewels can keep you going. From the depths of the sea to the farthest unknown bends of the Earth, the S.S. Republic and its treasure hunting expeditions are the most engrossing and captivating. For these expeditions aren't for the faint-hearted or the weak-willed.

Among the wreck of the S.S. Republic, there lies a great number of $20 and $10 piece gold coins which still keep their original form and splendour even after nearly a hundred and 50 years! Many of the pieces have been found, but quite a few more still lie among the rubble in the ocean floor, which, even after nine years since its 1st discovery, make it one of the most up to date hunting spots for treasure hunters to date.

The gold coins, silver, gold bullion and other precious jewels with other artifacts as mentioned above have a net worth starting from $100 to $180 million US dollars, in today's evaluation. Each gold coin has its own worth value from that time. But surprisingly, the silver coins have quite a competitive value of their own. This is due to the fact that in the Civil War era and mid-nineteenth century, a shortage of silver coins took place; causing those silver coins to become equally as valuable as gold.

So, for those looking for an adrenalin thrill or having an identical measure of curiousness about the Republic and its treasure, they should definitely tool up and get out there! Treasure hunting or gold digging ventures need sharpened instincts, dedicated research skills, cut-throat persistence and last, but not least, the correct treasure hunting tools to support them. Hence, get your GPS Map Markers and treasure hunting gear from Satellite Treasure Maps and the S.S. will not fail to reveal its treasures to you.
