Why a GPS Is Your Number 1 Accessory For Hiking or Skiing

For years I would not hike alone because I know that I don't have a very good sense of direction, but now with a GPS in my pocket I can go anywhere that I like and be completely assured that I can find my way home without any effort. As a result I'm taking my GPS with me when I go on camping trips or just out for a good walk on trails near my home in Vermont.

I purchased the Garmin nuvi 1490lmt GPS as it provides lifetime traffic and map updates, so now I never have to pay another cent but my maps are always current and I haven't got to worry about the data on my GPS being outdated. The updates cover North America, Canada and Puerto Rico. In any of those nations, I will always find my way home.

Cross country skiing is a very popular pastime in Vermont because of the flat snowy landscape in winter months. The weather can change swiftly and without any warning and visibility can be reduced so that it is pretty much impossible to see landmarks to find your true direction. With the Garmin GPS I can find my location by drumming the screen and I'm given true latitude and longitude positions or just the most effective path to my last destination.

The GPS is a nearly standard fixture in most automobiles and everyone uses it to find their way to a destination, but the GPS device is nearly more useful out of the vehicle than it is in it! For outside sport fans the GPS is a safety device and has many extras that make it a particularly useful travel companion.

There is a currency converter, a world clock with all of the global time zones, a jpeg picture spectator, there is also a world measure converter and a calculator. The modern GPS is light and compact and fairly often comes with a carry case. It is no trouble to pack to take with you wherever your destination and is extremely handy.
