Shopping around for that perfect GPS system is easy when you know what you are doing. Being careful and shopping smart will help you avoid being taken for a ride. How can this be done? What kind of decisions do you have to make? What sorts of worries will you have? What should you be looking for? Read on for a few of the things you should be considering.

Do you have a preference in how instructions are presented? Do you want to be able to talk to a live person who is following along with you while you travel? Are you all right with a computerized voice reading instructions from a map the unit pulled off of a satellite? These are important factors to consider. While the GPS systems that have operators to give you directions (like On Star) are more expensive, they can be very handy if you miss a turn or get lost. This person will give you turn by turn instruction in real time. At the same time, if you don't mind getting pre-loaded instructions from a computer, that type of unit can save you a lot of money. It really depends on your reaction time and what makes you feel the most comfortable.

How user-friendly does your system need to be? If technology isn't your forte you should look for GPS systems that offer ease of use. The more heavily equipped your unit is the more likely it is that you will cause user errors. Although, if you are technologically inclined you should consider a unit that offers all of the options you want. Your comfort level with technology will play a large role in your decision.

Make sure where you are shopping offers a good warranty, return policy and a money back guarantee. If your new unit malfunctions or breaks you don't want the hassle of a store that won't honor their warranty. You of course never want to be buried in bureaucracy just to have a system replaced when it goes bad. Of course you also do not want to be forced to purchase a new system just because the store didn't offer a good warranty or return policy or the system manufacturer didn't have a sufficient warranty. This is very important, especially if you aren't used to using GPS systems.

If you are prone to getting lost a GPS unit is the most essential tool for you. They can help you learn your way around a new city. They can help you find your way when you travel to a new place or need an alternative route. It is imperative that you shop smart in order to get the system best suited to your needs. If you carefully consider all of the things we've discussed here you will be able to make a solid decision on the system you buy.
