    Advantages That GPS Systems Offer

    Many people are now familiar with it. Over the years, GPS has become a household name. Knowing a bunch on the underlying technology is something we should all look at.

    It initially started as military technology developed by the U.S. Department of National Defense. The government allowed the technology to go public in the 80's. The network consists of 24 satellites orbiting the globe two times a day.

    The GPS navigation system transmits signals to the earth through GPS receivers. The receivers distribute the data wherever they are needed. In order to locate a user's location, the system uses triangulation.

    There are many uses for the GPS navigation system other than getting a person's exact location. Nowadays, the technology is mainly used as navigation systems for vehicles. It is a great guide within the city to determine the shortest route to a destination. Weather reports and traffic updates can be taken into account when driving. Also, some companies the offer GPS navigation offer pre-loaded routes for the most popular destinations in a location.

    As technology progresses, sizes of devices become smaller and smaller. The technology is now available and imbedded into smart phones as well as watches. Smaller GPS devices are usually intended for personal usage.

    Personal GPS systems are useful for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, trekking, and sports activities such as jogging and biking. GPS devices have made outdoor activities a whole lot safer. Hikers are now equipped with devices that would ensure they'd never get lost.
