The Worst Types of Traffic Jams That Lorry Drivers Should Avoid!

Lorry drivers can spend hours on end on the road, sometimes up to 12, and in this time they will see all kinds of things that the normal motorist will miss. Traffic jams are a regular part of their lives unfortunately, and the reasons for these can vary including road works, average speed checks and of course accidents. For a truck or HGV driver it can be immensely inconvenient and cause untold anger and frustration.

This means they spend longer on the road as they still have to deliver their goods and drive back home, so it will take them longer to get home to their families. However, no matter how bad a traffic jam they end up in, lorry drivers were probably sat in the following ones for much longer!

In what has been billed as the worst traffic jam in history in China, an increase in lorry drivers was actually blamed for the whole thing! It was August 2010 and the congestion went on for over 9 days, on a road that links Beijing and Zhangjiakou called the National Expressway. They were in gridlock so truck drivers were seen playing chess and cards with other drivers. It was not just the lorries to blame, there was construction work also. It was not, however, the only time that happened on that road!

You may think that cities you have driven through have "bad traffic", such as London maybe. Well spare a thought for the people on the roads in Sao Paolo. In 2009 they set a record for having over 35% of the roads blocked throughout the city!

In a completely different climate, Moscow is another city that has traffic problems - every time it snows which as you can imagine is quite often!

Normal traffic jams are generally only a few miles long if that, but it can feel much longer! However, how long would it feel like you were stuck if you were in a 110 mile jam?! Well the people of Paris found out in 1980!
